The island

Gothenburg’s southern archipelago.

Brännö is reached by Västtrafik’s archipelago boat from Saltholmen. The nearest stop for Brännö Varv is Brännö Rödsten. The island is a place for walks, swimming and views — and for staying on the quay.

Nature

Galterö nature reserve

Galterö lies directly west of Brännö. The reserve was established in 2015, covers 651 hectares of land and sea, and is managed by Västkuststiftelsen. Paths wind around most of the island. In summer it is used for swimming and boating. Year-round it draws birdwatchers and anyone who wants to walk in the archipelago.

Walk

From Rödsten to the bridge

A stone arch bridge connects Brännö and Galterö. From the harbour at Rödsten it is, according to the County Administrative Board, about two kilometres across the island to the north-west side, where the bridge crosses the sound. The westernmost headland, Galterö huvud, is not part of the reserve and is a military area.
